Access to Care

Those in our care are provided with an orientation on how to access healthcare services.

Primary care is available in all facilities.  Appointments may be requested by submitting a medical request slip and dropping them in any facility mailbox or handing the form directly to a nurse.

There is always an on-call practitioner. Acute medical/surgical intervention is accomplished through the utilization of community hospitals, primarily the Brown University Health and Care New England systems.  Sub-specialty care is provided either on-site or at the provider’s location in the community.

The RIDOC's Healthcare Services also partners with Brown University Medical School to provide clinical experience for medical students and residents in correctional medicine and infectious diseases.

Patients are encouraged to speak with nursing staff in their facility.
