Communication

Effective communication is fundamental to safe, secure, and well-managed correctional operations. By strengthening communication with staff, incarcerated individuals, and key stakeholders, RIDOC promotes clear, timely, and consistent information sharing that supports informed decision-making, enhances operational effectiveness, and fosters transparency across its correctional system.

 

3a1 - Negotiate with collective bargaining unions in good faith, emphasizing mutual communication improvements.

3a2 - Continue to encourage union leadership and member support for strategic plan goal achievement.

3b1 - Establish a media room with virtual collaboration technology to enhance staff engagement and other broadcasting capabilities to assist with providing transparency and other mutual messaging benefits.

3b2 - Enhance electronic sharing of information amongst facilities/units to increase situational awareness, intelligence gathering and emergency response. 

3b3 - Increase internal communication to ensure staff are informed about Departmentwide decisions and initiatives.

3b4 - Maximize use of electronic “Dashboard” features to provide readily available information for dissemination consideration.

3c1 - Empower staff and promote buy-in through increased management personal contact and worksite engagement.

3c2 - Establish an official Department newsletter to highlight, feature, and emphasize Department happenings. COMPLETED

3c3 - Allow line staff to attend appropriate segments of management staff meetings to offer rank and file input and perception while gaining accurate insight into management mindset and actions.
